In the morning of 27 December 2020, the annual conference of the Legal Education and Legal Profession League of the Greater Bay Area of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao was successfully held in the Yangguang Hotel located at Tianhe District, Guangzhou city. Representatives and experts from the Committee of Basic Law of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the Basic Law of Macao Special Administrative Region of Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, Education Department of Guangdong Province, Law Society of Guangdong Province, Sun Yat-Sen University, Lingnan University, South China University of Technology, South China Normal University, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Guangdong University of Finance and Economics, Guangzhou University, Shenzhen University and City University of Macao. The conference was sponsored by the Legal Education and the Legal Profession League of the Greater Bay Area of Guangdong-Hong Kong- Macao, and organized by the Hong Kong and Macao Basic Laws Research Center of Shenzhen University and the Hong Kong and Macao Basic Laws Research Society of the Law Society of the Guangdong Province.

Professor Zou Pingxue, the director of the Hong Kong and Macao Basic Laws Research Center of Shenzhen University, introduced the key-note speaker Mr. Huang Shanduan who is a permanent citizen of Hong Kong. Mr.Huang serves as the deputy director of the Belt and Road Legal Service Coalition of the Qianhai District of Shenzhen and practices as a mainland lawyer at China Commercial Lam Lee Lai Lawyer. He gave the online speech entitled “The Structure of Knowledge that a Cross-Border Professional Legal Team Shall Acquire - A Discussion of Legal Education and Legal Profession from the Perspective of a Lawyer”.

During the discussion session, participants from universities and institutions shared their work and experience in legal education and legal profession. They further offered advices for the work of the League in the coming year.

Deputy director of the Communication and Cooperation Division of the Education Department of the Guangdong Province praised the conference to be “Three Goods”: the organization of the conference is good; the outcome of discussions is good; the planning scheme for the coming year is good. He further advised the League to be built firstly as a platform for constructing a rule of law-based society to further draw other forces from the society, secondly as a platform for law professors to incorporate more university lectures and professors in law, thirdly as a platform for law students to promote communications between university students in law department.

Professor Zou Pingxue closed the conference with appreciation for the supports of the Education Department of the Guangdong Province and the Hong Kong and Macao Basic Laws Committee of the NPCSC. For all the difficulties during the Covid-19 pandemic, member institutions of the League cooperated and worked together to make the conference possible and successful. Professor Zhou sincerely believed that, with all the support from the superior departments and the constructive advices from all the participants, the League is getting better and better in the future.
